Ever since my last post on how to organize your kitchen, I knew I wanted to do a whole post on the topic of kitchen decor. Kitchen decor is a subject that tends to be overlooked, even though most of us spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Running a lifestyle blog with a large emphasis on food means I spend my time either in the kitchen or in my office. So making these rooms as welcoming and beautiful as possible was very important to me. But even if you don’t spend as much time in the kitchen you may want to implement some of these ideas.

We are currently renting and the kitchen we have came with the apartment. This saved us a lot of time, money and stress but it also means that we cannot change all too much. While I like the minimalistic white design of the kitchen, I wanted to add a few personal touches to make it feel more snug. As I mentioned in my kitchen organization post, I am extremely strict on what is allowed on the kitchen countertops. Since our kitchen is an open-plan design, it acts quite like a focal point which is exactly the reason that I never want it to look cluttered.

However small your kitchen is, you can decorate it without it feeling cluttered immediately. Here are my favourite tips on how to implement decor ideas in a minimalistic manner.

Bring a pop of color into your kitchen by displaying a floral arrangement on your kitchen counter. Display whatever makes you happy. For me it’s either hydrangeas or peonies! For a more calm feel, use only 1 color or similar colors. If you do not have the time to buy flowers regularly or have pets that constantly nimble on every plant you bring home, you can also opt for faux plants and flowers. Ikea has some really gorgeous options!

Display a pretty dishcloth on your oven. Not only will this keep your dishcloth dry it also acts as decor at the same time. I prefer dishcloths with a minimalistic design because they go with all my seasonal decor. Zara Home has beautiful options that are also great quality.

Get yourself a gorgeous dish soap dispenser. It may sound weird, but this was one of the first things I bought when we moved in. I believe a beautiful dispenser makes all the difference. It just looks so much better than a cheap plastic bottle with a huge brand logo. It’s also more environmental friendly.

Two words: Cookie jar! This is a classic kitchen decor item and I believe every kitchen should have one. There isn’t a better feeling in the world than getting your hands into a large cookie jar filled with sugary delights. If you are worried that you will be tempted non-stop, try filling it with healthier cookies such as these vegan breakfast cookies. Whichever type of snack you fill it with, just be sure to use an airtight jar.

If cookies aren’t your thing, you could display fruit instead. We usually have this glass bowl filled with gorgeous ripe tomatoes or any fruit that keeps outside of the fridge. It is a constant reminder to eat more fruit every time you walk past it and it definitely motivates us to eat more fruit.

Lastly, consider putting your favourite wood cutting board out on display. I found this gorgeous olive wood board at TJ Maxx, that I use as a cheese board.

I hope you found some of these ideas inspiring and are motivated to bring some personal touches to your kitchen as well! If you have any great decor advice that I missed, let me know in the comment section down below. ♥
