We all get them from time to time, those annoying headaches. There are various reasons for getting a headache and whether it’s from staring at a screen for too long, a drastic weather change or simply feeling stressed, it can be very irritating. If you are suffering from headaches regularly or if headaches have disrupted your productivity in the past, then keep reading for some helpful tips, which you can implement the next time a headache comes around.

The reason I want to share these tips with you today is because I recently overworked myself a bit, okay actually a lot. I spent 65 hours in that week, sitting in front of my pc, editing photos, writing and doing various social media stuff. After staring at a screen for so long, I got a headache that I will never forget. It was probably the worst one I have had so far in my life, it was like a sharp sting everytime I moved my head. It lasted for over a whole week. Within that week I spent most of my time trying to relieve the pain in various ways. I tried out so many different things, some worked and some didn’t. After I had finally gotten over it, I felt inspired to share some tips on what to do when a headache comes around.

Let me start by saying that these tips are things you can do to immediately make your headache go away or at least lessen the pain. They are ways to deal with the pain once it’s there. However, there are a lot of things you can do to prevent a headache from occurring in the first place. Such as

    • drinking enough water throughout the day
    • getting enough quality sleep
    • limiting your screen time
    • going outside and getting fresh air everyday
    • taking time to relax in times of stress
    • eating a balanced and nutritious diet

If you are struggling with headaches on a regular basis, you might want to take these tips to heart. But sometimes even if we do the best we can, a headache will still come around. So let’s take a look at how you can kick a headache in the butt next time it wants to bother you.

    Peppermint Power

I have been using peppermint oil for years to combat headaches and I still think it’s one of the most effective ways to relieve headaches. Rub a bit of peppermint oil mixed with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil or avocado oil on your temples. Make sure to not rub it too close to your eyes! It helps even more if you close your eyes, cup your hands together and inhale the peppermint residue that is left on your hands.

    Blackout

Oftentimes when you get a headache any type of acoustic or visual stimulus can irritate you even more and worsen your headache. Drawing the blinds or closing your curtain, turning off any devices close to you and wearing sunglasses outside can help immensely.

    Take a Sip

While my go-to treatment for a headache is peppermint oil, my husband swears by drinking coffee. It has actually been proven that caffein acts as a headache relief because it contracts the blood vessels that tend to enlarge during a headache. So next time a headache comes around, brew yourself a cup.

    Talk a Walk

Headaches can sometimes be caused by a lack of oxygen in a stuffy room. If you have been sitting around inside for too long, grab your jacket and take a walk. The fresh air can take away or at least lessen your headache.

    Take a Nap

This one is basically the opposite of taking a walk but can also be really effective at curing a headache. While it may not always be possible for you to nap during the day e.g. when you are in the office and your boss is in the next room, it can be a relaxing way to get rid of a headache on the weekend.

Sometimes headaches can be so strong that taking medication is unavoidable. If these tips were ineffective at getting rid of or lessening your headache, you can of course always take a pain killer. It is definitely worth to opt for natural ways before going straight to the pill cabinet but when a migraine strikes, there is no reason to be a hero.

        Hi Patt
Thanks for the lovely feedback and suggestion. 🙂 I am currently working on a lot of other projects (just started out with Youtube! :)) and am not able to publish any new blog posts at the moment. However, I added it to my list of blog articles I want to write once I have a bit more time available.
