Classic Guacamole

Guacamole- refreshing, tangy and creamy. A classic you can bring to any party and watch as guests crowd over the bowl, going back for seconds.

I thought this would be the perfect time to showcase a classic green guacamole recipe here given that it’s St. Patrick’s Day soon. Spring has finally started but as always I feel a little bit ahead, already craving summer types of dishes. For me, a bowl of guacamole is like a bowl of sunshine. As cheesy as that may sound, it does bring some zing and bright flavor into your diet. Given the many sunny days we have had, I was inspired to create a classic guacamole recipe.

For years I have always made guacamole with a packaged spice mix. I would mix avocados with sour cream and a spice mix and call it a day. About a year ago I was at a party and tasted fresh homemade guacamole for the first time. My life was forever changed and I never went back to the packaged spice mix again. Not only has this saved me money but it also made my guacamole healthier (no sour cream, no additives). Yai for homemade guacamole!

What I love about a classic guacamole is the simplicity and how fast it all comes together. I used my trusty mortar and pestle that I bought from Ikea (don’t they have great kitchen stuff?!) to mash the avocado with the spices. Yes, I did feel fancy because I didn’t just use a plastic bowl and a fork. Then I added the onions and tomatoes and it was ready for devouring…which is what I did. In like 3 minutes. Please don’t judge me.

So next time you are invited to a party, do everybody a favor and bring this with. It will make you a party food hero without much effort. And who doesn’t want to be a party food hero after all…and yes, that word totally exists. 😉
Have a great week and a happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
