Mango Cherry Smoothie

    With temperatures above 30°c  here in Vienna, we are all in need of ventilators, shorts, flip flops, and of course COLD drinks. When it’s this hot outside I’m not in the mood for something decadent and heavy but rather enjoy eating small snacks and delicious salads throughout the day. Especially when the lettuce and herbs are homegrown from my dad’s garden (thanks dad)! In fact I am sitting in my dad’s garden right now enjoy a light summer breeze, keeping myself hydrated and working on my tan.

    The summer, hot as it is, is also the perfect time for trying out new recipes. So many fresh and regional veggies and fruits are available at the stores, it is a feast for the eyes just gazing at all the vibrant colors. If you follow my blog regularly you might know that I love experimenting with my Vitamix. So I tried a new mixture I’d love to share with you. This is perfect for any cherry lovers out there.

    One thing I would like to point out to you is that you cannot make this smoothie ahead of time. If you store it in the fridge for an hour or so, the cherry layer will start to solidify and become jelly-like. This is due to the fact that cherries contain pectin, not as much as apples but enough to change their consistency. You can fix it by blending it again with a little bit of water added but to save yourself the extra work I recommend to just drink it right away.

    Mango Cherry Smoothie

    • Total Time: 15 minutes
    • Yield: 1 1x


    A refreshing summer smoothie with sweet mango and sour cherries.



    Mango Layer

    • half a mango
    • handful of ice cubes
    • 4 tablespoons water

    Cherry Layer

    • 340g cherries (1 and 1/2 cups)
    • handful of ice cubes
    • 2 tablespoons water


    1. Blend all the ingredients of the mango layer together until smooth and pour into a tall glass.
    2. Then blend all the ingredients of the cherry layer together until smooth and pour over the first layer and serve.
